Country singer Kenny Chesney spoke for the first time since it has been announced the divorce from his wife, Oscar-winning actress Renee Zellweger.

Renne Zellweger, 36, met Kenny Chesney, 37, at a charity concert for tsunami victims, on 15 January 2005, California, where both were invited.

After only a few months of dating, the couple got married in a small ceremony, which took place on the Caribbean island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

But last week, the couple shocked the media, announcing they are seeking for an annulment, after only four months of marriage.

Zellweger cited "fraud" when she filed the divorce papers at Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday. According to the American law, she will have to prove that the country singer misrepresented facts vital to their marriage.

Yesterday, Chesney has broken his silence about the split from Renee Zellweger to ask for privacy. He says in a statement: "This is an incredibly sad time... I just hope everyone can respect the privacy that I know Renee has already asked for."
