Model represents Topshop at fashion industry’s biggest night of the year

Kendall Jenner is slowly but surely moving away from her work as a reality star and gaining a firm foothold in fashion, like she always planned. Last night, she made her MET Gala debut at the 2014 edition, as one of the models of Topshop.

The Costume Institute Gala Benefit might not be the kind of event you’d normally associate with Topshop but, for this edition, it created custom gowns for its models, with Kendall’s standing out for being the most elaborate and stylish.

Another model who wore Topshop on the red carpet was actress Zoe Kravitz but to less spectacular results, since her thigh slit was so high that, at one point, as she was going up the stairs, she showed photographers she’d chosen to go commando at the event.

Kendall, on the other hand, oozed style, as the photo above can confirm. She wore a champagne-colored gown that, at first sight, seemed like the typical, strapless, mermaid-skirted, prom-style dress we see so often on the red carpet, but there was something very special about it.

The dress was structured with body contour seaming, which flattered Kendall’s model body and added a bit of edge as well. Perhaps a woman with a slightly curvier figure could not have pulled it off.

Of course, all that contouring means that the dress was anything but comfortable, which Kendall made it clear when she posted to her Instagram a photo of herself on the way to the Ball, lying with her head in the driver’s lap because she couldn’t sit.

To make the dress pop out even more, Kendall opted for Tabitha Simmons shoes and a splendid diamond necklace by Chopard. That alone was probably worth millions, so you can’t really say that she went for something cheap on her big night.

Kendall had her glam squad do her makeup in the most natural way possible, and chose an ‘80s-inspired ‘do where her hair was combed backwards.

Sister Kim Kardashian was also at the event, as rapper fiancé Kanye West’s date. They didn’t get to hang out that much, since Kendall was seated with the other Topshop models, but they still found the time for a few selfies and photos together, which were immediately posted to their respective social media accounts.

This year’s MET Ball celebrated the opening of the Charles James: Beyond Fashion exhibit, with Anna Wintour, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Bradley Cooper acting as co-chairs for the event.
