Ken Levine, the leader of developer Irrational Games and the main man behind the creation of BioShock Infinite, has said that the game has been created with a PlayStation 3 version in mind from the start and that he is interested in the launch of the Vita handheld because of its unique capabilities.

BioShock Infinite is set to arrive on the PlayStation 3 at the same time as on other platforms and Levine has said that the unique capabilities of the Sony home console have been taken into account when creating the game.

Ken Levine also told the PS Blog that, “I like playing games on iPad… but deep down I want that level of control.”

He added, “What’s cool about PS Vita is that it seems to have all the benefits of an iPad-type device with the touchscreen and motion controls. But it has dual analog sticks….and I love shooters. You can finally play a shooter, a real shooter, on a handheld. Seriously, that’s a hole in my soul right now. Now I’ll have something I can play real shooters on, and that’s really important to me. It’s awesome.”

He reminded the fans who read the PS Blog that he was one of the early enthusiasts of the PlayStation Vita concept, having said in a Twitter message that the device seemed to do everything apart from putting together an omelet.

BioShock Infinite is very different from the first two titles in the series, only one developed directly by Irrational, as it swaps the underground naval city for a flying one.

Players will control a former Pinkerton agency detective who is sent to rescue a little girl called Elizabeth that is more than meets the eye.

She has special powers, including the ability to open up rifts in time and pace to parallel dimensions.
