Kelly Osbourne and the HIV+ Revelation

Kelly Osbourne is not one of the media's pets and this happens mainly because she is so unlike what the public would expect a star to be. She is loud, outspoken, outrageous, unconventional and, most important, not of the 'standard' size. Then again, does this mean that the mass-media has the right to ostracize her the way it has been doing for the past couple of years, ever since she shot to international fame with her family's reality show 'The Osbourne'?

This is not an attempt to safeguard her image or her public persona, especially considering that Kelly is a big girl now and she can take care of herself. However, most of those who trashed her in public have already come to regret all the harsh words they ever spoke or written about her, as she opened her heart during an AIDS benefit in London and let out that one of her relatives has been diagnosed with the disease.

Kelly is one of the most active campaigners for the cause, getting herself involved in activities that range from raising awareness to raising funds. As she took the stage in London, at the benefit, to say her speech, the singer/reality star burst into tears and admitted that the cause is very close to her heart because she, too, has a relative that has been diagnosed with AIDS.

Media representatives present at the event report that Kelly could hardly hold back her tears and sob and that she left the stage crying, without even finishing what she came there to say. As word got in the press today, speculations have already begun as to whom she was referring to when she talked about a 'relative', someone 'close to her' who has AIDS.

The British media, and especially the tabloids, have made it their task to find out if the person in question is her mother, father or one of her two siblings. They also tried to contact Kelly's spokesperson, but their calls were all left unanswered.
