“Please, can we move on so I don’t cry?”

Kelly Osbourne has a new clothing line (Stories, to go with the tattoo she got on the side of her head) and a new book coming out, so the last thing she wants to talk about is her late Fashion Police co-host, Joan Rivers.

That became very clear some hours ago on The Today Show, when Kelly did her best to deflect questions about who might replace the irreplaceable Joan on the show, which is coming back in January.

Embedded below are 2 segments from The Today with Kelly, in which she pleads with the anchors to stop asking her questions about Joan so that she won’t start crying. She seems visibly emotional when she’s saying this, but the skeptic in me doesn’t understand why she didn’t tell the anchors before the show that she wasn’t up for talking about Rivers.

After all, it’s common practice for interviewers to run some of the questions by their guests, so chances are they did that with Kelly too.

Secondly, she’s on the show to promote the new season of Fashion Police, on which Joan was the most famous commentator. It seems a bit hypocritical of Kelly to claim she’s not yet ready to discuss Joan’s death or to act as if she didn’t even expect to be asked the question of who might replace her.

If you’re still wondering who that might be, I should note that Kathy Griffin has confirmed rumors that she’s been approached with an offer. However, she insists she hasn’t signed on the dotted line yet, because she doesn’t know if the time is right for her to take over from Joan now.

The 81-year-old comedienne died in September following complications from a routine surgery on her vocal chords. She was old, obviously, but her death came as a huge shock because she was one of the most energetic television personalities around and still working like crazy. A couple of nights before her death, she’d just done a standup routine in New York.
