It is only a few days ago that Kelly Clarkson was telling Jay Leno that she and new hubby Brandon Blackstock wanted to have children of their own and were working on making their dream come true “like rabbits.” She’s just announced she’s pregnant.

The original American Idol, as Kelly is sometimes referred to in the media, broke the happy news on her Twitter feed, letting her fans and followers into her little secret in her typically sweet and genuine way.

“I'm pregnant!!! Brandon and I are so excited! Best early Christmas present ever :),” she wrote.

Kelly and Brandon were married in a super secret and intimate farm wedding in October, but she’s been talking about wanting to expand their family with a baby (Brandon has two children from a previous relationship as well) for months.

Most recently, she did it on Jay Leno, where she talked about how she’d never wanted to have kids before marriage and how she and Brandon were trying to a lot, now that they were married. You can probably tell that Kelly is very traditional like that, so the announcement is probably no real surprise.

“We are not announcing anything right now! We're not, no,” Kelly told Leno. Pressured into answering the question “Are you pregnant?” directly, she pulled an evasive maneuver that, in retrospect, was holding the key to today’s announcement.

“Practice makes perfect! We're trying, trying like rabbits!” she said laughing.

“More than anything, next I want a baby. Lots of them! My record label is freaking out because all I can talk about now are babies. We're really excited and want to get our family started,” Kelly said before her October wedding.

She added that she wanted to do it the “natural” way and that she was feeling pressure to have all the babies she wanted ASAP because, at 31, her eggs “weren’t getting any younger.”
