“Twilight” actor is host of Fox extreme sporting competition

Kellan Lutz managed to headline the biggest box office disaster of 2014, “The Legend of Hercules,” and has had very little commercial or critical success outside of his role in “The Twilight Saga.” That’s not because he’s a bad actor, but because he’s not in it for the accolades, he tells Elle in a new interview.

This week, Kellan made his debut as a TV host, with Fox’s new extreme sporting competition Bullseye, a trailer for which you will find embedded below.

Kellan doesn’t want an Oscar

To promote the show, Kellan sat down with Elle Magazine for an interview in which he touches topics ranging from his education, his many patented inventions (which he carries in a backpack with him to the interview, by the way), his workout routine and diet, and how he actually enjoys having people misjudging him as a beefcake.

He also says he has no interest in winning awards, whether they’re Oscars or smaller accolades. He never imagined he’d go for a career in acting, because he had other plans in life, but now that he’s stumbled into it, he wants the world to know he’s doing movies because he loves the art of it.

Just look at Matthew McConaughey and how he surprised everyone with his performance in “Dallas Buyers Club,” he says. Before this film, few thought he would ever win an Oscar, perhaps even Matthew himself.

Kellan is hinting that he could be that guy. He will continue to do dramas and comedies, and he will continue to star in action films: if any one of these gets attention from the critics and awards, the better. If not, well, at least, he spent the time doing something he loved.

Kellan is not dumb

Kellan Lutz’s reputation as an actor is something like this: he’s a handsome, very muscular guy with certain appeal to the fans but minimal skills, the kind of actor you’d rather watch than hear engage in smart conversation.

“Hercules” proved he can’t carry a movie on his own, but he continues to get offers for smaller-budget productions.

If he were less chill than he is, Kellan would probably take offense with the fact that people thought he was dumb. As he is, he really doesn’t care.

“People just have this perception of what I’m like because of the roles that I play,” he says. “If I get people to believe that I’m this air-headed, unintelligent beefcake, I must be doing a good job. But I know myself: I’m intellectual. I’m intelligent. I have a massive passion for science, mathematics, and writing.”

He adds that hosting Bullseye will give him the chance to show the world the real him. So, will you tune in?
