From blood-sucking vampire to immortal demigod, Kellan Lutz has seen his share of action films. His last film, “The Legend of Hercules,” required him to get in the best shape of his life. So how did the actor managed to achieve a statuesque body that looks as if carved by Greek sculptors?

Talking to Men's Health Magazine, the 28-year-old gives away some of his secrets. It looks like during the filming of Hercules he basically moved at the gym. He used this as a means of escaping unwanted attention.

“I was bored. They put us in these mall apartment complexes – the fans and paparazzi were outside the whole time. So I bunkered down in the gym; it was my escape.” That means that getting 30 minutes on a treadmill at the gym every other day won't get you looking like Kellan anytime soon.

Apart from working out intensively, the actor also went on a strict diet, where every calorie was counted. “For Immortals, we all had dieticians: every hour they’d hand you eight almonds or a plate of spinach,” Kellan bitterly remembers.

This time around, he went with the Paleo “Caveman” diet which basically forbids you to eat any sugar, dairy products, legumes and grains. This diet claims that by eating only things that our prehistoric ancestors did, you'll be able to lose weight. It relies heavily on lean meats, nuts and seeds and eggs.

Asked what he orders in restaurants, Kellan admits that he liked to play dumb in order to get what he wants, “Just ask if they have salmon and avocado and if they mind throwing together a salad for you. It’s being deliberately ignorant, but it works.”

But the best workout he's had was actually filming the movie. He said that swinging the 4kg sword all day long really built up his arms but also his abs. That, and riding a horse, should give you a six pack, ”Staying upright on a horse is hard on your abs, and swinging a sword really hits your core as well as your arms.”

And in case you're not a fan of running (and there are few out there in the world today), don't worry about it, neither is Kellan, but look at how fit he is. He says he'd rather work out with body weight moves and complete them with gym sets instead of running.

If that’s what it takes to get your body looking like that of a Greek god, you'd better get on it, because it's not only healthy but it also makes you more attractive with the ladies. Kellan is not complaining, he's having to beat them off with a stick.
