Chanel outfit emphasizes her small frame, reignites an older debate

Actress Keira Knightley is now in Paris, where she attended the latest Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week with her husband James Righton. As is customary at this type of events, she wore Chanel: an outfit that, thanks to an optical illusion, created the impression that her tiny waist was actually tinier than it was.

You can see the outfit in the photo above, but the shocking contrast is even more apparent in the photo here, over at Us Weekly.

“The Karl Lagerfeld design looked like a white crop top and matching skirt, but featured a black band around Knightley's waist. The Anna Karenina actress, who is the face of Coco Mademoiselle fragrance, accessorized the fashion-forward look with metallic gold pumps,” the publication says.

Keira is famously slim but toned, and the dress made her look even smaller in the waist thanks to its oversized, boxy top and skirt.

There wasn’t even the smallest indication about her that she was unhealthy but, as we speak, many voices online are saying she is or, at the very least, that wearing such a dress sends the wrong message to young girls.

For her part, the actress has done everything in her power to convince people that she’s nothing but extremely healthy, particularly after a set of photos of her at the beach emerged online some years back and many celebrity blogs pointed fingers at her, accusing her of making eating disorders “chic.”

As an actress, and a famous one to boot, you have a responsibility to look a certain way to inspire the women and girls who look up to you, they said.

Keira responded at the time that the women in her family had a history of eating disorders, so she had to learn since she was very young how to stay healthy by eating right. However, she was blessed with good genes that made it impossible for her to pack a single pound, even at those times when she didn’t really pay attention to what she ate.

Clearly, she’s still as genetically blessed as back then because she’s maintained her tiny figure so far.

Also at the Chanel show in Paris were Rihanna, who wore a similar dress that was less shocking because it was in a single block color (light purple, so the contrast between waistline and the rest of the body wasn’t that strong), Vanessa Paradis, Melanie Griffith and Anna Wintour, Vogue Editor-In-Chief.
