Keira Knightley Hates Being a Star

Well, people, the world's definitely turning upside down. Like it's not enough that every day we're being stuffed full of celebrity pictures that have been altered and airbrushed and oh so slightly edited again, so that we don't even know for sure if Paris Hilton's boobs are real (really, are they?) or if the blonde fairy-like girl smiling at us from the "Believe" add is really Britney Spears or her long-lost, drug-free custody-clear twin sister. We live in a world that's so focused on appearance that sometimes in our struggle to get that perfectly full smile on those perfectly rounded lips, we forget to do a reality check and things really do go out of proportion.

The crazy part is, I always imagined that photoshopping was for the likes of Britney, whose latest Allure pictures make any other comments I might have completely pointless. So imagine my surprise when I read that one of the cinema's good girls, who's got everything loads of other people long for day and night - that is, she's pretty and skinny and men all over the world find her very sexy - decided to have a go at fame and photoshopping. "Somebody goes, "Gosh, you're pretty". Thanks. I've got good genes! OK, I'm on the cover of a magazine but somebody else does the hair, and the make-up, and airbrushes the f**k out of me - it's not me, it's something other people have created", she said.

So let's get something straight. Keira here - who, if truth be told, is not precisely the greatest actress of all times (in fact, she and Orlando Bloom have recently been ranked among the top ten movie couples with the worse screen chemistry for their performance in Pirates of the Caribbean) hates the fact that the magazines for which she poses (and which, she forgot to mention, pay her a good deal of money and bring her a good deal of fame) airbrush her photos and make her look good. I mean, don't you find this a bit funny? You usually don't bite the hand that feeds you, if you know what I mean. And why on God's name does she complain, seeing that as I said before, there are hundreds of actresses who would (and often do) pay good money to be in her shoes?

But wait, there's more. Apparently, Keira also hates the fact that the celebrities' lives are being watched so intently. "I think it ruins the magic" she says. "That's why I like watching films from 20, 30, 40, 50 years ago, because I don't want to know who [the actors] are, I don't want to know their life story. I want them to be characters on the screen. The magic is in the screen, not knowing what's behind it, because that ruins the magic". Hmm... So let's go through it again. Keira hates being made to look better than she is, she hates being in the limelight and she hates fame. I take it from here that she also hates the money she gets for acting and modeling and that her life ambition is in fact to move to Tibet and breed llamas, but she's being forced to stay here and play the superstar. Gee, this life's a bitch!
