You probably didn't know, and if you did you probably didn't think it possible, but British actress Keira Knightley is often mistaken for the American pop star Britney Spears when she's out in public. We know, the similarities between the two of them are minimal, both in the body and in the face, but Keira is not making it up.

While on a British talk-show, the actress confessed that she often got called Britney in public in Los Angeles, hinting that Americans didn't have a clue about who she really was. Keira said that it had already happened three times so far and each time she decided to go with it.

Apart from stopping to sign autographs as Britney Spears, the actress also posed for pictures with fans, proving that she's a great sport. “It has happened to me three times in LA,” she said and added proudly, “I was quite excited by that and definitely signed and had a picture.”

This talk about Britney brought the question if Keira herself sang, and the actress admitted that she enjoyed doing it, just not in public. “I like singing if I'm in my own in the shower or if I am really drunk, but I'm not a big fan of singing in front of people, which I didn't realize until I said yes to the movie and found myself singing in front of rather a lot of people.”

Not that Britney is any better. Just yesterday, her manager confirmed what people were suspecting for a long time: that the pop diva wasn't actually singing live in her residency show in Las Vegas. The reason that was given was that it was “virtually impossible” for her to sing and do the dance routines.

People figured that something was fishy when videos began popping up online with the singer sounding suspiciously fresh when she should have been totally out of breath. Then she started missing her cues, and the song would begin without her, like it did on one occasion where she was busy waving to fans, and the microphone wasn't even in front of her mouth when her voice came through the speakers.

For Keira, however, it's fun to pretend she's someone else famous. However, she isn't the only celebrity that goes out of their way to fool people. American actors Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg long ago made a pact to not tell fans when they get mistaken for one another.

Matt Damon revealed the elaborate ruse some time ago, saying that they had to do it because people kept confusing them: “We have a deal. And the deal is, if you're mistaken for the other guy you have to be extremely polite. I can't ruin his name, so when I'm Mark Wahlberg I have to be on my best behavior!”
