Find and correct filesystem and physical errors

Regularly checking your storage card for lost clusters or chains might prove essential for people that want to prevent losing important data stored on the memory cards. One of the pieces of software that can make this process very easy is called ScanDisk Mobile and has been developed by Wizcode. The application is able to detect and fix FAT or media errors, which appear over time. Part of these errors or lost clusters usually appears when the mobile device is suddenly interrupted when writing data on the storage card.

Basically, every time your device freezes and you have to soft reset it, there's a chance that the operating system will not update the FAT tables or the file chains. This results in lost data that cannot be accessed anymore through the file system and can even cause more lock-ups of the gadget or application errors.

ScanDisk Mobile is fully compatible with Windows Mobile devices and requires 2MB of free storage space and at least 5MB free RAM. Some of the most important problems that ScanDisk can repair are: FAT mismatches, FAT errors, lost clusters, invalid cluster chains, cross-linked files, directory entry issues, folder relation errors and bad sectors. I consider the last one as the most interesting as the application can detect these bad sectors and mark them accordingly.

Furthermore, the application will try to get all the data that has been stored on these defective sectors and move it to a healthy sector. While the process is not 100% accurate and may not be possible in some cases, there's still a high chance that you will be able to get all the info you thought was lost.

ScanDisk Mobile is offered for free as a 30-day trial, after which you will have to register the application for further use. The full version of the app can be acquired for $14,95.
