Even if yesterday the whole world has celebrated Valentine's Day (which has become more of a Valentine's Pay Day, if you ask me), there are still quite a lot of people out there who don't really trust their partners or spouses and would like to keep better track of what they're doing and where they are going. And a very good device that enables them to do so is the Mambo personal tracker from Falcom, which combines the powers of GPS and GSM in order to provide a very interesting and useful surveillance tool.
Of course, the aforementioned use is not exactly what this device has been designed for, but it can nevertheless work. Anyhow, according to the manufacturers, the Mambo is meant to be more of a personal-safety device, since, upon pressing the panic button, it is capable to use the GPS signals to define its positions and send the coordinates via a SMS message or voice call to a preset cell phone number. However, the device also provides geofence features that can be used for territory management, route verification, prohibited locations, and more, so you can keep track of what a certain person is doing.
Here is a list of the some of the most important features and specifications the Mambo from Falcom has to offer:
- dimensions: 86 mm x 60 mm x 28 mm;
- weight: 90 grams;
- battery: 2 rechargeable Li-Ion batteries 1700/850 mA/h;
- memory: 2 Mb Flash, 512 kByte SRAM;
- supported communication technologies: GSM, CSD, GPRS, Bluetooth;
- speech codec modes: half rate, full rate, enhanced full rate, adaptive multi rate;
- includes: a 20 channel GPS receiver;
- supports: Bluetooth Class 1.1 and 2.0;
- features and internal loudspeaker, internal microphone and external audio interface.
This device has just been announced, so there's no word on the pricing yet, but I'm pretty sure that this thing will prove to be quite successful, especially among the over-paranoid and controlling users out there.
