Keanu Reeves and Catherine Zeta-Jones might star in a movie about Johnny Stompanato(1925-1958), the L.A. mobster killed by the 14-year-old daughter of his girlfriend, actress Lana Turner.
The Unfaithful filmmaker Adrian Lyne is attached to direct "Stompanato," which has landed on the steps of Warner Bros. Pictures but has not yet made the studio its home, according to The Hollwood Reporter.
Keanu Reeves ("Constantine") has just completed work on Warners' "Il Mare," a time-travel romance that reunited him with "Speed" partner Sandra Bullock, while Catherina Zeta-Jones returns will next be seen in "The Legend of Zorro."
Antonio Banderas, Sharon Stone and Richard Gere were previously said to have been shown interest in the movie, which revolves around mobster Johnny Stompanato's love affair with Lana Turner, starting with his murder, stabbed by her teen daughter, Cheryl Crane, telling the story of their relationship (which lasted almost a year), in a series of flashbacks, leading back up to that fateful night.
An ABC telepic, called Detour and based on a 1988 book by Crane, is also in development.
There was also a recent independent film, "Johnny Stompanato" starring Remy Jagla and Anthony Zamputo.
