Over the weekend, Ke$ha came under some fire with Britney Spears fans after a new track that did not make the cut on her “Animal” album was leaked online. Called “Styrofoam” and addressing the ever-fascinating topic of how nothing in this world lasts forever, the track also included what seemed like a diss at Britney’s expense. Ke$ha explains all that on So You Think You Can Dance Australia.
As the video below will also show, Ke$ha too is upset about the controversy that started without her involvement. When asked about the Britney Spears diss, which occurs halfway through the song and implies no one will know Spears’ name in ten years from now, Ke$ha is as honest as possible: the track was recorded when she was just 15 years old and she had no power of saying no to her label. The fact that it’s not on “Animal” should speak volumes for how Ke$ha feels about it.
“Just to clarify, I didn’t write that bit,” Ke$ha says about the “In 10 years, Britney Spears... Britney, who?” part of the song. “And that was from when I was fifteen – and there is a reason that song’s not on my record. I have to admit now I ever regret even singing that because I have mad respect for her,” the pop star adds. “Styrofoam” is not included on “Animal” because she doesn’t believe in it, the singer goes on to explain, that is, in its message.
However, it’s easily understood why Britney Spears jumped to conclusions, since the leak of “Styrofoam” came after an interview in which Ke$ha said Spears was no artist for lip-synching. “I think that’s bull[expletive]. I don’t think that’s fair at all for people who are going to see the show. I think if you are going to be a singer, you should sing. If you are going to be a dancer, you should dance. If you are going to do a combination of the two, you should make it very clear when you are singing and very clear when you are dancing. I would never do that to my fans. No offense to [Spears] specifically but people have asked me before to mime. I have been up at three in the morning for a television show with jet lag but I refuse to mime. It’s treating people as if they are too stupid to realize you are not actually singing,” the “TiK ToK” hitmaker was saying a few days ago.
In response to the above, Spears’ former sidekick and manager Sam Lutfi tweeted in anger that no one should try to make headlines by bringing down the Princess of Pop. A better idea for that would be for Ke$ha to shave her head and hang out with him, Lutfi also said – and Britney Spears fans will certainly appreciate the smarting irony in that last part of his tweet.
