Ever since Russell Brand filed for divorce before New Year's Eve after 14 months of marriage, Katy Perry has been keeping a very low profile, saying nothing about the reasons that led to it. Her parents, though, are not as tight-lipped as she is.

Keith and Mary Hudson, known for using their daughter's name to promote church appearances all across the US even though they claim to be disappointed in how she turned out, have opened up about her divorce during a recent sermon.

It happened in a church in Idaho, The Sun reports. The Hudsons told the congregation that Katy's divorce might as well be a gift from God because it's helping them gather more believers for the sermons.

“I'm sure Katy is trending on the internet just to get you to church tonight,” Mary Hudson said laughing, notes the British publication.

“I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012,” she added.

All this time, Keith refrained from speaking about the divorce. However, towards the end of the sermon, he did plead with the world to stop judging Katy for it, offering his own example for them to follow.

“I love my daughter and I will always love her. Stop being judgmental and critical. Do not close the doors to your loved ones, especially your children,” he told the worshipers in church.

“Just because they do not like what you do or what you are, they are still praying that you stay in the race. They are counting on you. I believe in God, for every one of my children,” he added.

Perhaps learning of her parents' indiscretion in the press, Katy took to her Twitter to put an end to the speculation on her divorce, saying no one (in caps), not her friends, “close sources” or family, is allowed to speak for her.
