Katy Perry's artwork for her new single “Dark Horse” has just been revealed, and it's a bit of a puzzler. There is no doubt that a lot of work and thought went into this vintage-looking drawing depicting Katy with a metal horse mask on her head, but something seems off.

It makes you wonder what message the singer is trying to convey with this image.

Looking like a vintage ad from a tin box of Danish butter cookies, the artwork seems unfitting with the urban sounds of “Dark Horse”, a collaboration with rapper Juicy J.

The image was created by New York-based artist Yao Xiao and it features an animated version of Katy in a Victorian dress with a metal helmet on her head, shaped to look like a horse's head.

The song “Dark Horse” is the second release from her “Prism” album, and following its increased airplay on radio stations, has moved up on the Billboard 100, landing at number 6.
