After the much-hyped “California Gurls” video, where Katy Perry takes a trip to Candyland, it was natural for her to take a different approach as regards her upcoming material. The artist revealed the artwork for her next album on Twitter: the album is called “Teenage Dream” and the cover appropriately features her spread out on a pink cloud – wearing just that.

As E! Online puts it, it’s not like Katy has anything left to prove as regards her appeal to the male segment of her music-loving audience. Still, she managed to push the envelope even more, working with New York-based artist Will Cotton, famous for his candy landscapes, for the cover art. The image shows the singer on her tummy, as if enveloped in a pink cloud made of cotton candy but, trust us, she’s no angel.

“For the cover of her third studio album, Teenage Dream, the betrothed pop princess went ahead and had fun with her naughty-angel reputation, stretching out on a strategically placed cloud and leaving all clothing and accessories – including her halo –behind. And in keeping with her retro-girly vibe, the lips are red, the hair is ‘40s-pinup perfect, and the cloud is cotton-candy pink! Oh, and this cover isn’t some mere photo, it’s a portrait painted by contemporary artist Will Cotton,” E! writes of the art.

“The day I found Will Cotton, I knew I wanted to live in his cinematic cotton candy world. A fantastically art-directed music video and one piece of timeless album artwork later, I can proudly say I am more than a fan. Will has been a sweetheart every step of the way and always open to collaborative ideas. I’m so happy to have discovered his candy-land, and so excited about our creative future together,” Katy said in an older interview about working with the artist.

The image that will go on the “Teenage Dream” album also appears in the “California Gurls” video. Speaking of the single that has been named by radio stations all over the world this summer’s anthem, Time magazine has included it in a list of Top 10 Worst Songs of the Summer. Also featured are the Black Eyed Peas with “I Gotta Feeling,” Fergie with “London Bridge,” Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” and Vitamin C’s “Graduation (Friends Forever).”
