She was raised to believe divorce was wrong, didn't want to do it, says report

As speculated for a couple of months now, Katy Perry and Russell Brand are getting a divorce. He filed the papers right before New Year's Eve, as the rumor mill went into overdrive when they spent Christmas 7,000 miles apart.

Fresh reports about what went wrong in the marriage are now starting to surface.

One of them claims that, while there's no bad blood between the two (because they're both aware things simply didn't work out), Katy didn't want to be the one to file for divorce.

TMZ claims to have it on very good authority that she practically “made” Russell file the papers because she didn't want to upset her religious parents by being the one to take this step.

“Since Katy’s parents are evangelical Christians, we’re told she didn’t want to be the one to 'officially' end the marriage by filing the docs… since she was raised to believe divorce is wrong,” TMZ writes.

By the time Russell filed the papers on Friday, they had talked about divorce, deciding they had done whatever they could have to make the marriage work – and it simply didn't anymore.

“Katy and Russell knew the relationship was on the rocks a couple of months ago – but didn’t want to give up on the marriage without making a concerted effort to work things out. But the effort fell flat, with both sides feeling 'it just wasn’t there',” the same e-zine notes.

So, on Friday, after spending Christmas apart, Russell filed the papers. Shortly afterwards, he issued a statement to confirm reports.

“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends,” he said in the statement.

In a separate post, TMZ writes that the marriage was over shortly after the honeymoon ended, when Katy and Russell realized the insane attraction they felt for each other wouldn't be enough in the long run.

The fact that they spend so much time apart because of their schedule and their clashing lifestyles contributed to the demise of the relationship, the celebrity e-zine reports.
