14 DAY TRIAL // As promised, Katy Perry has unveiled her newest music video, for the single “Birthday,” and it’s a hoot. After the odd “Dark Horse” release, this one comes as a breath of fresh (comedic) air.
You will find it embedded in full below. The theme of the video is stated at the beginning: Katy Perry attended 5 different birthday parties and no one knew she was there until the end, when she chose to reveal her true identity.
The video sees the pop star in 5 getups that are a far cry from her sizzling public image: she’s an aging exotic dancer who still dresses like she’s in top shape, she’s an MC, she’s a clown, she’s an animal trainer and a reluctant princess and face painter.
Obviously, she sucks at each and every one of these jobs, which means the pranks she gets to pull on kids at birthday parties and on their parents are quite funny. Well, maybe except for that part in which Ace the animal trainer pretends to eat a mouse and there’s blood dripping on his chin and all the children start to cry.
To fully enjoy this video, try to pretend like the pranks are real, that they weren’t staged. Katy might not be to everyone’s liking as a pop star but there’s no denying she can be quite the chameleon when she wants to.
