As Katy Perry's Prismatic World Tour hit England last week, the singer seems to be on a roll as she plays to packed auditoriums all over Europe. But, beyond the glamor and showmanship, there is a somewhat darker secret that Katy has just revealed to Cosmopolitan Magazine.

The “California Girls” singer has acknowledged that she gets so nervous before every show that she needs to take pills in order to be able to perform. She has confessed in her interview that “I have to take beta blockers [before each show], I get so nervous. [I say] that I have to get through this; I can’t let these people down, but mostly I can’t let myself down.”

We know that she's a perfectionist but we didn't know that Katy was willing to take things to a different level just to be able to keep herself performing. Often, we tend to forget that artists are only human and subject to the same emotions like the rest of us.

Keeping that in mind, Katy also points out why she struggles so hard to keep herself on top of the charts and why she's always struggling to outdo herself. “I’ve been given a great opportunity and there are 500 [expletive] behind me who will snatch my weave off my head if I don’t kick-ball-change through this two-hour show. There is a lot of choice out there. All I’m trying to do is make great music,” she explains.

While she does take pills to calm her nerves, Katy also admits that she would never drink alcohol before a show, because she takes it all so seriously. However, she does admit to the occasional glass of champagne after the show is done.
