She recently admitted on her Twitter that her marriage to cagefighter Alex Reid was “in crisis” and now, Katie Price is getting ready for a nasty divorce battle, by taking the necessary steps to protect her £40 million fortune.
Last night, Price and Reid announced a press conference, with speculation making the rounds in the British media that they would make public their divorce statement on the occasion.
At the last minute, the press conference was called off, amidst escalating reports that Reid is going after a share of Price's money, which is the first thing that is now high on her priorities list,
The Sun reports.
Over New Year's, the two went on a romantic trip together, in a bid to save their 11-month marriage. They failed, says a source close to the couple.
Not only is Katie, once known solely as Jordan, the glamor model, determined to divorce Alex but she's also set he's not having a penny of her money from the marriage.
“Katie tried very hard on their holiday to make things work, but Alex didn't want to know. It would seem he thinks he can get more out of the marriage if it collapses than if they work to save it,” says a well-placed but unnamed source.
“Katie now wants to protect everything she has worked for – and that includes her children's inheritance,” the same spy explains.
Consequently, Price has already contacted a high-powered divorce attorney, the same one that also worked for her just months before getting married, in her divorce from Peter Andre.
“Katie will be ready for any divorce battle. She hired 'Steel Magnolia' Fiona Shackleton – who represented Prince Charles and Sir Paul McCartney in their divorces – when she split from ex-hubby Peter Andre last year,” The Sun writes.
She's determined not to give Reid a penny from her money. “If Alex thinks he is going to be set up for life with an easy settlement, he is wrong,” the spy adds.
According to the same report in The Sun, Price is also thinking ahead for her career: she's making plans to move to the US, where she'll start working on a brand new reality show, focusing on how plastic surgery has helped her remain relevant and famous throughout the years.
