Katie Price Announces End of Marriage

“We all make mistakes and this was one,” Katie Price says of her 11-month marriage to cagefighter Alex Reid, which she has just ended, in a lengthy statement sent out to various British publications.

Rumblings about an imminent divorce have been heard for a couple of months now, but both Katie and Alex have repeatedly denied them, saying their marriage was fine.

More recently, the glamour model admitted that her marriage was “in crisis,” but said nothing of divorce. Last weekend, she and Alex were supposed to release a joint statement – but backed out of it at the last moment.

Now, Katie is saying in her own statement (as cited by the Daily Mail) that one of the reasons why she and Reid are not an item anymore is his love of spotlight and the extent he’d go to to grab headlines.

“Alex and I have had a number of difficulties over the past few months. I accept that these were in part caused by my marrying too quickly – we all make mistakes and this was one,” Katie begins by saying.

“However, Alex changed from the man I fell in love with and some of his behavior became difficult for me to understand and caused issues. I have tried to help him with these issues but they have put a considerable strain on our relationship,” she adds.

Admittedly, Reid used her and the relationship he had with her to get media attention onto himself, up to a point where this simply interfered with their life together.

This, the star says, happened despite the fact that she was the first to try and give his career a push in the right direction – which she’ll still do if he wants her to, Katie generously says.

“Alex and I have spent many hours discussing our relationship and trying to make it work but the issues between us are too deep rooted. I had hoped that we could end our relationship amicably and without a war of words in the media,” the glamour model adds.

“I am deeply upset that my relationship with Alex has failed but I know it is the right thing for my children and I that we separate. My children are my absolute priority in this and they are being shielded from what is happening,” Katie concludes by saying.
