Katie Holmes has always been a celebrity who cares a lot about her privacy, and this has become all the more obvious after she married the “biggest movie star in the world,” Tom Cruise. For once, the actress opens up about what it’s like to be the wife of Tom, mother of Suri, and how she manages to deal with the media attention, in the latest issue of Glamour magazine.

The former “Dawson’s Creek” darling says that, despite their 16-year age difference and the criticism that it has attracted, she has always known she would marry Tom. It was not so much a question of “how” but of “when,” Katie reveals, comparing herself with her sisters, who also had a crush on the actor.

“When ‘Top Gun’ came out, my sisters were like, ‘Oh, my God, ‘Top Gun’! Tom Cruise!’ And I very confidently said, ‘I’m going to marry him one day.’ It wasn’t like, How do I get to Tom Cruise? It was just: I think I’m going to marry him. Why not? He’ll like me. I’m fun.” Katie unveils for Glamour magazine.

In the end, it’s great that she got to see her dream come true, especially since she always dreamed of making a name for herself in the industry. Now that she has Tom by her side, though, she can deal with whatever obstacles she stumbles upon in her career much easier because that’s what Tom is for her, the rock on which she always leans. Their marriage is not in any way affected by their age difference, Katie affirms, because they’re always open and listening to what the other has to say.

“From an early age, I knew that I wanted to be in this business. So I did everything I could to get here, and when I met Tom, I knew in an instant that we were going to be together, that we were going to get married. He does have a very big life. And you know, we just do it. And, as a woman, you make that transition from being single to [being] a partner. I have a teammate, and it’s like, we’re going to make this work. [The age difference] was never a concern. I know one would think, Now, how is that? But really, we both like to work, we both like our families. It’s being there, being supportive, being an ear. It’s not so much, ‘Do you think I should do this?’ It’s ‘What do you think of it?’” the actress adds.

In the same interview, Katie Holmes also sets the record straight on a reported second pregnancy – which does not exist yet – and talks about the way the media deals with her and her personal life. It’s hard to be always living in the spotlight, she states, but luckily she has Tom to help her through it, which he did when the tabloids would not stop questioning Suri’s existence because her parents would not take her out of the house back in 2006.
