Katie Holmes appeared in public for the first time since the actress and future husband Tom Cruise have announced they expect their first child, after just five months of engagement.

Holmes, 26, went to a Los Angeles fashion show on Wednesday, accompanied by one of her new best friends, Victoria Beckham, all dressed in black, in an attempt to hide her huge bump.

The two stars sat in the front row at the Rock & Republic Fashion Show, surrounded by stars including Paris Hilton and Mena Suvari. Victoria Beckham, who created some of the denim fashions on the show, gave Holmes a pair of jeans, to wear it for the event.

The Holmes-Cruise couple is said to have decided getting married next month on a beach, because Katie doesn't want to "walk down to the aisle with a bump".

According to a source quoted by Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "Tom's old fashioned. He wants his child to be born in wedlock. He's very romantic and wants everything to be in place before the birth."
They both decided on the Ritz-Carlton in Cancun as soon as they got engaged and initially were planning on tying the knot around Christmas. Katie didn't know that she was pregnant, so their arrangements suddenly had to be scrapped".
