Rumor has it she’s been after the job for a very long time

Comedienne Kathy Griffin is about to get the chance of a lifetime and a huge career boost, because she’s been confirmed as the frontrunner to replace Joan Rivers on E!’s Fashion Police. Kathy herself has confirmed she’s been offered the job.

Rivers died in September 2014 from complications stemming from a routine medical procedure on her vocal chords, when she went into cardiac and respiratory arrest. She was rushed to the hospital (she’d been put under for the procedure at a clinic) and placed in a medically induced coma, and she died a few days later.

Shortly after her death, word got out that Griffin was lobbying to get her job on the popular Fashion Police, with voices even saying that she’d been after the position long before Rivers’ death. Griffin was forced to deny such a malicious rumor, saying she would never do something like this.

Then again, it’s not like it was that easy to replace the unmistakable Joan Rivers, she added.

The other night, Griffin confirmed that she’s been approached with an offer but is yet to sign on the dotted line, EW reports. As the comedienne puts it, she still has doubts “if the situation is correct or right at this time for me.” In other words, she’s afraid she might come out the worst for accepting the job.

While she’s not yet on board the show, E! is going to great lengths to prepare Rivers’ mourning fans for this: it is only a matter of time before they bring someone new to take over from Rivers. Giuliana Rancic stresses that this isn’t a question of “replacing” the late comedienne, because that’s impossible. “It's more about the show just being a great show and a fun show,” she says.

Do you think Fashion Police could continue being that with Griffin on board? Let me know in the comments section below.
