Katherine Heigl is taking yet another break from "Grey's Anatomy" and is currently hard at work on the set of her new movie, a romantic comedy called "The Ugly Truth", scheduled for a 2009 release. Her co-star and unlikely love interest will be played by Gerard Butler, best known for P.S. I Love You, The Phantom of the Opera and, of course, 300. The interesting part is that even though production for the new flick has barely taken off, we're already facing not as much leaks, as floods with regard to its plot and even some of its key scenes. Such as, for example, a scene in which Katherine Heigl re-enacts perhaps one of the modern cinema's oldest gag-cliches - the one where the girl's skirt is trapped in the car door and then ripped off entirely, exposing the afore-mentioned girl's private areas.
As a result, the world gets to fawn over shots of Katherine in her underwear, although, of course, most of us would probably have been happiest to see the actress wearing a thong or at least something with a little more lace and satin rather than the conventional boxer-like briefs she's got on. But as the saying
goes, beggars cannot be choosers. Katherine's new movie tells a story of a "romantically challenged" (whatever that means) morning show producer "reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests" or "trails" by her chauvinistic correspondent, with the ultimate purpose of teaching her how to find true love. Of course, the story has an "unexpected" ending which sees Heigl's character learn her lesson and conquer the trials in true medieval knightly fashion.
The funny part is that a couple of months ago, Heigl publicly complained that her box office hit comedy "Knocked Up" was a little to sexist for her tastes, portraying all women as silly, annoying creatures and all men as fun, lovable and carefree. However, nothing spells "non-sexist" better than a movie in which an attractive, successful woman is taught the meaning of true love by a man who generally finds women to be inferior. "The Ugly Truth" is apparently the name of the TV segment hosted by Butler's character and who will teach Heigl her lesson about true love. In any case, while we're waiting with bated breath for the movie to come out, we can console ourselves with shots of Katherine in her underwear. Because, see, that's not degrading at all. Not in the slightest.
