Titanic star Kate Winslet is said to be in negotiations with the people at Universal Studios to star in the widely publicized Jobs biopic penned by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Danny Boyle.

Winslet is reportedly being eyed for the role turned down by Natalie Portman. It isn’t clear what the role is exactly, but it is thought she will play Steve Jobs’ daughter, Lisa Brennan-Jobs, an American journalist and magazine writer. Her mother is Chrisann Brennan, who wrote about her relationship with the Apple co-founder in the 2013 book “The Bite in the Apple.”

A casting roller-coaster

The Jobs movie is not so much a standard biopic, as it is a story of the key moments in Jobs’ evolution at Apple. The man’s personal life will not be discussed much in the film, according to interviews done with playwright Aaron Sorkin, who specifically said the movie was divided into three parts, all depicting the backstage fuss of preparing for key product launches at Apple.

The pic is nonetheless based on the Walter Isaacson biography of Jobs, the only official biography of the visionary genius. Because of the specific nature of the film and the seemingly demanding role of each character, several high-profile actors have pulled themselves out of the cast.

These people include Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, and Natalie Portman, whose role will be replaced by Winslet if everything goes according to plan. Jeff Daniels is said to be playing John Sculley, the man best known for firing Steve Jobs from his own company after being instated as CEO. The real Sculley revealed on several occasions that he later found his decision to have been one of the worst in his life, stating that he regretted firing the CEO.

Who is playing Jobs?

Variety reports that Michael Fassbender is still on hand to play the keynote rockstar credited for revolutionizing the tech industry, while Seth Rogen will do the part of Steve Wozniak, the other Apple co-founder that unjustly gets mentioned last most of the time. However, when it comes to Apple’s humble beginnings, Wozniak often steals the spotlight from Jobs, even more so now that Jobs has been out of the picture for over three years.

Danny Boyle will direct the one-and-a-half-hour movie, while Scott Rudin, Mark Gordon, and Guymon Casady will be in charge of the producing aspects. Shooting will begin in spring 2015, according to various entertainment news outlets.

A mediocre Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher is already available, in case you can’t contain your anticipation.
