She’s got a great body that women all around the world envy for being the exact opposite of what they see on the catwalks and, most importantly, she knows how to use it to always make for a stunning presence on the red carpet. British actress Kate Winslet and her sophisticated fashion style have received the ultimate accolade with People magazine’s title of “Best Red Carpet” for 2009, as CNN can confirm.

While the British star was acknowledged for her classy looks on the red-carpet circuit, of which we’ve seen more than plenty this year, what with “The Reader” and “Revolutionary Road” being strong contenders in all major film awards ceremonies, First Lady Michelle Obama is also featured in People’s yearly top. However, this year, the magazine decided to spice things up a bit and move away from the glitzy, red carpet to offer superlatives to celebrities who knew what style and utmost elegance was on all occasions, including when they went out to run errands. Michelle Obama, for instance, is “Most Accessible Glamour.”

“We go through thousands and thousands of photos, and for the top 10, we choose those who have a strong sense of personal style and were out and about and had a great fashion year. It’s not in any order; it’s people we love for different reasons.” People style editor Clarissa Cruz says of this year’s top. This way, while Winslet gets a nod for all her red-carpet looks without a single exception, Mrs. Obama gets one for actually selling merchandise by appealing with her look to the average woman.

Yet, People doesn’t stop here with the praises. Socialite turned television personality Kim Kardashian also gets a nod for best swimsuit, especially since she’s toned her body with the help of QuickTrim and regular workouts, as we also reported. Nicole Richie, on the other hand, gets the award for Best Maternity, while “Slumdog Millionaire” star Freida Pinto gets Best Color and Taylor Swift Best Sparkle. Petite Reese Witherspoon gets a nod for Best Short Dress and, in the same category of minis, “High School Musical” sweetheart Vanessa Hudgens gets an award for Best Hippie Chic.

Still, there is only one celebrity who can truly take glamour to the streets and that is Beyonce, winner of the Best Street Chic award. “It’s not easy to look great every time you leave the house. Beyonce wears belts that emphasize her small waist and her curves. She always looks great when she leaves the house because she always has great hair and makeup, and almost always is wearing high heels.” Cruz says of the “Single Ladies” hitmaker and her always-impeccable look when photographed out.

Notably absent on this year’s chart was Angelina Jolie who, despite several appearances on the red carpet in support of Brad Pitt’s movies, was harshly criticized for her fashion choices, including this black, leather, body-hugging dress that many considered a desperate cry for attention. The full list (including People’s best dressed men) is out with the latest issue of the magazine, now on newsstands.
