14 DAY TRIAL // Kate Upton, one of the hottest models of the moment, was discovered by pure chance, thanks to a viral video of her doing the dougie at a basketball game. Today, she’s on the cover of Fashion Bible Vogue, the UK version, and she’s drawing comparisons to another iconic and voluptuous blonde, Marilyn Monroe.
Because, you see, Kate is not like any other model we have seen so far, except for those deemed “plus size” by the industry which, in mundane terms, means girls larger than a tiny size 2. However, Kate is not “plus size”: she’s a bikini model and has just recently made the transition to high fashion as well.
So, to put it in fewer words, Kate Upton is a very atypical model.
This is what has made her fight bitterly with her agents before her big break, she tells the famous publication. Kate is Vogue’s cover girl but, for the time being, we have only excerpts from the interview that will accompany the shoot.
Speaking of which, above is the cover: it’s gorgeous and sizzling hot, with a touch of vintage, a perfect blend for today’s hottest and most unlikely model.
“It’s weird that in the press they’ll be like, your biggest fight was with the industry and the designers, and I’m like, no, my biggest fight was with my agents, trying to get them to sign me into the castings. I thought, how I’m going to come out of this will be an example for girls,” Kate says.
As for comparisons between herself and Marilyn, Kate wins big by playing the modesty card. “I always thought Marilyn was so beautiful and iconic, it was amazing to even be mentioned in the same sentence as her. I feel like nowadays it’s easy to be genuine and show your personality, whereas I don’t think Marilyn had that opportunity. And clearly she had a dark side, and I don’t have that,” she says.
These days, Kate is also transitioning to the big screen, having just landed her big acting break in the female-driven rom-com “The Other Woman,” which is now running in theaters in most territories. Kate will be sharing the screen with Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann.
“The Other Woman” also marks the acting debut of rapper / pop star Nicki Minaj but, since her role is much smaller, she’s not doing any press for it.
