Sports Illustrated worked with ZERO-G to make this photo shoot happen

As I mentioned in a blog post yesterday, Kate Upton recently modeled for the 50th swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated in microgravity. No, she did not go to space, but took part in a series of parabolic flights that emulated both gravitational conditions on the Moon and in outer space.

The non-conformist photo shoot, a video of which is available above, was carried out on March 18, 2013, aboard a heavily-modified Boeing-727 aircraft operated by the Zero Gravity Corporation (ZERO-G), called G-FORCE ONE.

The aircraft flew a total of 17 parabolas, four of which replicated gravitational conditions on the Moon. The other 13 replicated microgravity conditions, similar to those found aboard the International Space Station. You can see Upton struggling to adjust to her new environment in the attached video.

NASA uses the same type of aircraft and flight path to train its astronauts for long-term stays on the ISS. The fact that Kate Upton was able to keep her cool on a type of airplane that astronauts call the Vomit Comet is amazing in and of itself.
