Model Kate Upton must have had the worst week possible, since her private photos were hacked from her boyfriend Justin Verlander’s iCloud account and then posted online. However, she put on a brave face the other night, for the Fashion Media Awards.

Upton was just one of the 100+ female celebrities targeted in the hacking, but hers (and Jennifer Lawrence’s) photos were the ones that got the most attention from the media and the fans at home, who checked them out online.

She brushed off the controversy to make a stunning appearance on the red carpet, at an awards show that, ironically, honored her for her online presence. She won the Social Media Awards.

Kate Upton brought her A fashion game to the event

The young Sports Illustrated model, who was discovered by chance when one of her videos went viral and conquered the world with her voluptuous curves, sense of humor, and how down to earth she was, wore a gorgeous Emilio Pucci dress.

She accessorized it with Casadei strappy shoes and gorgeous jewelry by Bulgari. Though she is a gorgeous woman and an already seasoned model, Kate’s red carpet appearances tend to be of the hit-and-miss variety – but this wasn’t one of those.

Her styling was equally impeccable, opting for makeup that highlighted her gorgeous blue eyes and a retro-inspired, side-swept hairdo with large curls.

The hacking scandal reopened the debate on online privacy

Since the photos were leaked, the debate on online privacy has been raging like never before, mostly because this is the biggest leak of the kind so far. Apple has already refused to take any share of responsibility in it, saying it wasn’t a bug that allowed the hacker access to the photos, but rather a targeted attack.

Some voices have even blamed the celebrities themselves for what happened, saying they should at least take a fraction of the blame, on the reasoning that if they had never taken those photos, there would have been none to hack and leak online.

Kate wasn’t the only one targeted, and as it happens, she wasn’t the biggest star either. Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence was the A-lister whose photos drew the most media attention – she’s yet to surface after she was publicly embarrassed like this.

Other women who were exposed online against their will include Kirsten Dunst, Victoria Justice, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Hope Solo, and McKayla Maroney. Photos of Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, and other celebrities, circulated as real, proved to be fakes.

The FBI is conducting an investigation into the leak.
