Kate Upton had been on such a winning style streak during the promo trail for her movie debut, “The Other Woman,” that it’s almost unbelievable how badly she (and her stylist, no doubt) could mess up her third appearance at the prestigious MET Gala.

The 2014 edition, whose theme was that of old-school glamor, preferably in black and white, saw the Sports Illustrated stunner slash up-and-coming actress dress like a horrible combination between Betty Bo Peep and a flamenco dancer or, as some voices online put it, like a saloon girl with a fancy headdress.

Above is a photo of Kate on the red carpet. You might not be able to tell from how fussy the gown is, but it’s actually an illusion ruffled design by Dolce & Gabbana. To this, Kate added a corset and a flower headpiece.

As if all this weren’t enough to make the outfit a bad one, the gown came with a full tulle skirt and a nude-colored panel underneath that created the impression it was see-through. The bodice was very tight, squeezing Kate’s already very generous cleavage in what must have been a very uncomfortable manner.

From the photos we’ve seen of Kate online, chances are that, on the way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, where the gala took place, she realized what had been done to her, because she looked very uncomfortable in and displeased with the dress.

This is Kate’s third year at the MET Ball and the third time she tops worst dressed lists. The first time she attended, she was mocked online both for her fashion and for the fact that she had admitted to paying for the ticket, which, as you may imagine, only happens in the case of non-celebrities. Plus, at $25,000 (€17,940) a pop, it’s not exactly cheap either.

This year’s Costume Institute Gala Benefit celebrated the opening of the exhibit Charles James: Beyond Fashion, so all attendees had to abide by the dress code and go for old-school glamor. James is known as “America’s First Couturier.”

Just a few days ago, Kate was winning over fashion critics from all over with her appearances on red carpets worldwide, on the occasion of the premiere of the female-centered comedy. Her performance in the film (or the film itself, for that matter) did not really impress, but she did win several major points for her style during the promo trail – points she probably lost last night.
