I don't know why I have a problem with seeing Kate Moss naked. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not bothered by the fact that she gets naked (after all it's her job and she needs to keep the dollars rolling in), but by the feeling I get every time I happen to see one of her naked spreads. Let me explain. I'm an ordinary person, right? And she's a supermodel, a sex symbol, a revolutionary character in the history of modeling, and so on. We could write books about Kate, her influence in the 20th century fashion, her rise and fall, her crazy personal life, her relationship with crack-head Doherty and so on. So, if I'm a regular person looking at a spread featuring Kate Moss, her exposed boobs and a lot of smoke (literally)... why am I not feeling amazed? In fact, why do I feel as if I'm looking at my neighbor's wife changing clothes with her blinds open? OK, I'll rephrase that: my neighbor's 70 year-old wife. Yup... there's a problem.
I mean, Kate is still kind of hot, right? At least that's what I've been telling myself while looking at these photos. Trouble is, I can't actually point out one thing about her that makes her hot. I mean, we've seen her nipples and bare breasts so many times now that I can't really find anything new to say about them. And we all know Kate never had a problem with nudity, whether we're talking glossy magazine covers or while on holiday, so... you do the math. OK, then what about her face? Well, I don't know if it's just my imagination (might very well be), but Kate has worked that pose with the lips half-parted and the semi-blank stare that tries (and fails) to be provocative one too many times for it to be sexy. The smoke? Well, yes, now that's interesting - and if I were to be mean, I'd
ask myself whether the magazine also had Pete Doherty in the background smoking some pot just to create a nice, relaxing atmosphere for his former flame.
I remember an FHM poll last year in which readers deemed Kate "old and ugly", blaming her hard partying lifestyle for the model looking well past her prime. In a world where young equals fresh equals success, Kate's older, more mature and sophisticated looks seem to be increasingly less easy to sell. Perhaps it's time for a style change from the former queen of the catwalk. If it worked for Madonna so many times, I'm sure a model so versatile as Kate could pull it off. As long as she stays off the booze and the weed. Um... does that mean her chances are slim to none?
