The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and the Duke of Cambridge Prince William welcomed their first child this week. One day after giving birth, Kate made her first public appearance but one magazine suggests she go on a diet ASAP.

As we also reported earlier today, Kate and her son, whose name has not been made public yet, left St Mary’s hospital in London after a one-night stay after birth.

They were driven home by Prince William himself, but not before a very brief photo session and an even briefer round of interviews.

The one thing that everybody watching (and apparently people from all over the world were) noticed immediately was that Kate was wearing a pregnancy dress that did not hide her post-baby bump. If anything, it made it stand out even more.

As The Telegraph notes, most local media outlets praised the new mom for her decision to wear such a dress because it told women that it was normal not to look “perfect” right after delivering a baby.

The exception was OK! Magazine, which came out with a “vile” cover for this week issue, “in which they spoke to the Duchess’s trainer about her ‘diet and shape-up plan’ after her pregnancy,” the publication reports.

In other words, the Duchess just had a baby: it’s time to go on a diet ASAP.

As expected, the cover did not fail to trigger angry responses from women all over the world, many of them on Twitter, where a boycott is being organized as we speak, The Telegraph says.

As OK! is refusing to address the controversy, reasonable voices note that women should not lose sight of what’s important: the aforementioned decision by the Duchess to wear that dress.

“In a couple of minutes on the steps of the Lindo Wing Kate has done more for new mums’ self-esteem than any other role model. Sadly, too many celebrities often have ultra-fast tummy tucks or strap themselves down to emerge in tiny size six jeans, leaving everyone else feeling inadequate,” Siobhan Freegard, founder of Netmum, says.
