Kate Hudson, who is now expecting her second child with rocker Matthew Bellamy, opens up to the latest issue of InStyle magazine about love at first sight, wanting to start a family and learning she was pregnant.

As she puts it, she knew she would have a baby with Matt from the moment she realized things were getting serious between them.

It took some time to get there, though, since she didn’t know if she was ready for the kind of commitment that was expected of her, she says.

“In the beginning I felt like, okay, this is going to be heavy. Am I prepared for this? Because it had been a while, and I wasn’t looking for that,” the actress reveals for the magazine, in what is her first lengthy interview on the topic since confirming the pregnancy.

Luckily, she realized there was no turning back.

“But I just couldn’t stay away. I wanted to talk to him and be with him all the time. On our first dates we would take long walks and talk the entire day,” Kate explains.

As for the “surprise” pregnancy, as it’s been described in the media, it wasn’t that much of a surprise: after all, they’re both adults and they both knew what they were doing.

“Well, it wasn’t like we didn't know what we were doing,” Hudson stresses. “There were no ovulation kits involved. We were tempting fate, and it worked,” she adds.

“I didn’t think I was going to have another kid until I was maybe 33 – that was in the back of my mind before I met Matthew. But we were so in love when it happened, it was just so exciting for both of us,” the actress says.

In the same interview, Kate also speaks about the first time she met Matt – and how they both realized they’d actually met years before – and what an “amazing” guy he is. He was “polite and immediately protective” from the first minutes spent together, Kate says.
