Kate Hudson is and has almost always been in top shape, which, of course, isn’t to say she doesn’t have periods when she’s a few pounds over her ideal weight. This would be one of these, as the star has piled on some weight for her part in “The Killer Inside Me,” where she plays a very plane, regular woman. Right now, she said on David Letterman the other night, as Daily Mail can confirm, she’s working to losing all those extra pounds.

And she has the perfect – and already verified plan – for this: calorie counting. Just like many other stars before her, Kate has started keeping a food diary of sorts, where she calculates how many calories she ingests on a daily basis in order to make sure she doesn’t go over the recommended daily intake. She’s already losing weight because of it, she told Letterman the other night, as he was trying to have her eat some of his waffles made for the special occasion.

“The 31-year-old, who put her curvier figure on show on the set of her new film Something Borrowed in New York yesterday, filled out for her part in the horror movie The Killer Inside Me. ‘I’ve been counting calories and it works,’ she told David Letterman earlier this week. The American talk show host was tempting her with waffles smothered in butter when she visited his show Tuesday night. ‘It’s so much butter,’ marveled Kate, who has one son with her rocker ex-husband Chris Robinson. ‘What kind of butter is it? I don’t really want to eat this,’ she added,” the Mail writes.

“But eventually Kate yielded to temptation, enjoying a few bites of the decadent treat, then rattling off her estimation of their calorie content. ‘So right now this is – about three bites is like 100 calories.’ When Dave joked that she’d let herself go, she said: ‘But I do, I actually do let myself go’,” the tab further says. Even though a bit skeptic at first about how good the waffles were, Kate admitted towards the end (see video below) that they were actually quite good, which would probably also explain why she feared they would upset her calorie count.

In the same interview, the actress revealed that she personally chose to gain some weight for the part because she wanted to make her character more believable. In order to be able to do so, she stopped going to the gym and indulged more in her cravings, she explained.
