14 DAY TRIAL // Kate Gosselin is coming back to the small screen with a 2-part special on TLC called Kate Plus 8: Sextuplets Turn 10 and, to drum up interest in it, she stopped by Good Morning America to address criticism that she agreed to do it only because she’s desperate for cash and attention.
It’s not true, Kate says: she would have never done this reunion (?) special if she didn’t have approval from the kids beforehand. She doesn’t name any names, but she’s probably speaking on this only because her ex-husband Jon Gosselin went on the record saying he didn’t approve.
Back in the day when the Gosselins were the biggest thing in reality television (i.e. immediately post-divorce), Jon got himself fired from the show after he went public saying he believed this much exposure wasn’t healthy for their 8 children. He even tried to ban Kate from filming the series but things didn’t work out in his favor.
He hasn’t stopped criticizing Kate for it for one second, and chances are he will start doing it again once the first part of the special airs tonight. He certainly did it right after TLC confirmed the special, so he’ll probably not keep quiet now.
In a preemptive move, Kate says the kids were the most pleased with the news of the special.
“They were definitely excited,” Kate said on GMA. “I would never have agreed without asking them. You don't even choose a restaurant for dinner without checking with your kids, right? I checked with them and they absolutely agreed to do it. Excited, screamed and wanted to know immediately when the crew's getting here.”
The GMA segment also includes a snippet from the first part of the special, from the teaser we also mentioned earlier today, in which Kate tells the sextuplets she’s thinking a carnival birthday party for them and all their friends would be just perfect to celebrate turning 10.
In that segment, Kate is shown with a gorgeous little birdie on her shoulder, as she’s talking to the kids at the dinner table. She says the birdie is the latest addition to the family and that everybody “is in love with him.”
“He's my tenth child. He's my baby. Long story, but he ended up with us. I'm in love with him and we all are. I've decided my pets never have a bad attitude. They're always happy. They love me for whatever I do. When you have teenagers, it's a nice break,” she says.
Back up just a second there, to “he’s my tenth child.” Kate Gosselin had 8 children by ex Jon, the sextuplets and the teenage twins. Unless she’s counting another pet as her ninth and the bird as the tenth, she must have made a serious miscalculation there.
