The Gosselins have stumbled onto very difficult financial times and are now a far cry from their days of TLC glory, when they weren’t just the hottest couple on reality television but also role models for millions. They’re also divorced, as you probably know.

Last week, word got out that Jon Gosselin had been evicted from his house after he failed to make the necessary payments. He was said to have moved into a small apartment, upset that he no longer had a place to take his 8 kids with Kate to, when they came over to visit.

InTouch magazine is now reporting that Kate too is having some money issues and that she’s holding a yard sale this month to get by.

Kate Gosselin, television’s most hated mother of 8

Back in the glorious days mentioned above, Kate Gosselin was a role model. She wrote books on parenting and endorsed all kinds of products, and she could charge a lot of money for a single public appearance.

The decision to divorce Jon was her undoing (his, too) because, as the proceedings continued, more details about their private life spilled into the media, painting her as a control freak, a domestic tyrant who only posed as a doting mother, a fake who didn’t shy away from using nannies for everything relating to the kids – of course, when cameras weren’t around.

Her TLC show got axed and, for years, Kate struggled to get another TV job / reality show. She’s had appearances on Dancing With the Stars, Celebrity Apprentice, and Celebrity Wife Swap, and rumors claimed she was practically begging networks to give her a chance.

By that time, she was already a hated figure and no one wanted to risk working with her for too long. Until TLC reconsidered their stance and asked her to do a 2-part special that would help viewers of her defunct show catch up with what the family has been doing all these years.

Right now, despite the fact that the special didn’t really get record ratings, Kate is shooting for a new series, which will premiere later this year. She’s said to make $40,000 (€31,374) per episode, but it’s still not enough for her and her family.

Buy the Gosselins’ old stuff

So, on October 25, Kate and her 8 kids will be selling the stuff they no longer need or want. The announcement notes that “a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Local Animal Rescue League,” but the consensus online seems to be that Kate has money problems again.

After all, no one holds a yard sale unless they’re strapped for cash.

This summer, Kate explained her decision for putting the kids back on camera again, after criticism from Jon, who told the media that they had development problems because of early exposure: she would not do reality television if she had any other way of providing for the kids, of making sure that they had a lucky start in life.

So, in the end, whatever she does that gets her under fire from critics, she does it for the children. The same goes for her repeated attempts at maintaining herself relevant, at landing another show and staying in the headlines, and her new yard sale.
