14 DAY TRIAL // A few days ago, Kate Gosselin was telling the media that her soon to be ex-husband had secretly raided the family joint bank account, taking about $230,000 without her permission and literally leaving her unable to feed her children and pay the bills. As they await for a judge to decide whether the violation of previous court terms really occurred as Kate claims, she has also filed papers in court asking for child and spousal support, People magazine informs.
Since Jon took the money from the joint account and left her with little less than $1,000 – clearly not enough to pay all the bills and expenses, and feed the children –, Kate feels it’s Jon’s duty to provide the money for all this. In court papers filed earlier this week, she asked for him to return the amount taken in 24 hours and to sell his two cars if need be to recoup some of the loss. Now, she wants a judge to force him to pay for all expenses.
“She needs relief in light of the draining of substantial marital assets in violation of the arbitrator’s decision that the money should be used only for specific purposes.” Mark Momjian, one of her attorneys, says for People magazine. All financial issues are currently being looked at by an arbitrator, who will hopefully come up with a solution favorable for both parties. A first hearing in the case is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, the attorney explains.
“Mark Heller, Jon’s divorce attorney, did not have an immediate comment on Kate’s request, but Thursday said he still hopes the two sides can work out the monetary issues without having to involve a judge any further. ‘We are hoping in the next few days we can all do some bookkeeping,’ he says. ‘I’m pretty sure this can come to a cordial resolution.’” People mag writes of the ongoing dispute over money.
As we also reported, while Kate insists that Jon did, indeed, take the money although he was supposed to ask for her permission before making any withdrawal, he claims this is just Kate’s way of throwing dust in the wind of the media and making him look like the bad guy. In fact, he says, Kate has more than 11 bank accounts that she set up ever since she broke in the spotlight with the TLC show “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” and that she’s certainly using them to hide money from him.
