Robert Hoffman’s explosive book on Kate Gosselin, “Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World,” is finally out, after several successful attempts from the reality star to block its release. With excerpts from it made available to the Daily Mail, it’s not difficult to understand why she wanted it never to see the light of day.

Hoffman began tracking Kate Gosselin for research in 2009, at a time when her TV career was really huge: she and Jon had not yet announced the divorce and they were, together with their 8 children, the biggest reality stars of the moment, all thanks to Discovery and TLC.

He spoke to countless family sources who had lived in the same house as Kate and even befriended Jon after the divorce. He gained access to Kate’s journal, which offered further insight into the life of this woman who seemed to come across from the TV screen as some kind of supermom.

The truth is, Hoffman writes, that Kate Gosselin is the last thing but a supermom. She is, however, a very calculated and cold woman, who came up with a masterplan that would turn her into the new Martha Stewart – with 8 kids to boot.

Apparently, after having the twins, Kate looked for inspiration to the case of Bobbi McCaughey from Des Moines, Iowa, who, in 1997, became famous for having sextuplets. What appealed to Kate the most was the fact that this woman was being handed a lot of free stuff just because she’d had 6 babies.

So she went to see a specialist to become pregnant with sextuplets too, Hoffman argues. “What I discovered is that Kate Gosselin deliberately and intentionally got pregnant with two sets of multiples in order to become the working mom's Martha Stewart,” he says.

For Kate, her 8 children with Jon were never more than just props, “pawns in her game to accumulate as much wealth and notoriety as she could.” She never had any maternal instinct whatsoever and never cared about the kids because all she did (and she continues to do) was because she wanted to be richer, more famous, more powerful.

Motivated solely by greed, she uses and abuses the kids on a constant basis, whether physically by spanking them and punishing them in the cruelest of manners (including leaving them outside in the cold without a coat or hat because they forgot to close the door behind them), or emotionally by neglecting them and being mean to them on purpose.

“The Gosselin children were nothing more than collateral damage in a business driven by greed. [...] Kate Gosselin is cruel and she seems to enjoy the power that she has over children, animals and adults,” Hoffman writes.

“In reviewing the events that created and fueled the Gosselin Family phenomenon, and ultimately turned it into a tragedy of epic proportions, one thing is very clear. The desire for money and power, caused eight innocent children to be exploited and abused in the most despicable ways,” he says.

Many of these things said here have been mentioned in the press in one form or another before. Each time this happened, Kate issued a statement to say they were all lies: according to her, Hoffman is a friend of Jon’s who’s only serving his interest, a liar who hacked into her computer and stole private information, and a shameless attention seeker.

Readers of Hoffman’s book will decide for themselves who to believe.
