Jon Gosselin was abused and constantly put down during his marriage to Kate Gosselin, the woman with whom he has eight children, and next to whom he reached international fame with the “Jon & Kate Plus 8” reality show and the current media scandal. In yet another excerpt from his interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, Mr. Gosselin goes further into the details of the scandal, saying the divorce happened because he dared stand up to Kate, as Us Magazine informs.

Kate has always had a reputation as a more controlling woman, but that was presumably explained by her having eight children that she had to take care of, as well as a promising career that needed much of her attention. Still, what viewers saw on the show was not even a half-truth, Jon says now, adding that the abuse got so bad that he had completely lost all sense of his true identity, of the person he was before he married Kate. Because of being constantly put down, he couldn’t trust her again if his life depended on it, he adds, and would certainly never accept getting back to that lifestyle if she asked.

“Our relationship will never be fixed. I don’t trust her anymore. I was abused... I was beaten down... I’m not going back to that lifestyle. She knows the truth. I wish to God, she would speak from emotions... She’s not speaking from the heart. Please – the stuff you tell me in private should be the stuff you tell me on TV.” Gosselin says, accusing his estranged wife of selling a “sanitized” version of their divorce to the media. Further on, he also accuses her of refusing to go to a counselor to save the marriage and always laying the blame on him for everything that went wrong.

However, what prompted the divorce was not her controlling ways, but rather the first time that Jon stood up to her and asked that he be allowed to go out with his friends, he points out. As per his own words, Kate did not see kindly to him going out at night, so he didn’t. So, there inevitably came a time when he did want to go out and she, again, prohibited him, only to generate the most unexpected reaction from Jon, who, as he seems to put it in a moment of clarity, saw what his life had become and decided to put his foot down.

“In 10 years, I’ve never gone out... When she said, ‘I don’t want you going out,’ I... I used to say, ‘OK, I’m not going to go out.’ I was very passive. This is the first time I said, ‘You know what? I want to see my friends. I’m going out.’ That was the first time in my life I ever stood up to Kate... I just felt like I had to take back some time in my life, and I did it. And I felt really good. I made my own decision ... I was beaten down for so long, I couldn’t even make my own decision. And when I did, I was like, holy cow! You know? Yeah, what’s she gonna do? Divorce me? All right. Obviously. You know.” Jon Gosselin further says.

Jon Gosselin’s interview with ABC’s Good Morning America airs on Tuesday, September 8.
