With husband Len Wiseman working on the remake of the classic “Total Recall,” it’s a wonder the name of Kate Beckinsale didn’t come up sooner when it came to speculation on who will play the lead. She’s now been tentatively attached to the film, it has emerged.

Deadline says it has it on good authority that Beckinsale has been offered the part that launched Sharon Stone’s career when the original film came out.

As of now, nothing is official, and the e-zine even says that it’s getting mixed messages about the casting choice – but chances are still pretty good that fans will see Beckinsale opposite Colin Farrell in the remake.

“Kate Beckinsale has been offered one of the female lead roles alongside Colin Farrell in the Sony Pictures remake Total Recall,” Deadline reports.

“I’m told she’s been offered to play Lori, who was portrayed in the 1990 Paul Verhoeven-directed actioner by Sharon Stone,” the e-zine adds.

“In fact, that role really launched Stone’s star after she transformed from the happy spouse of Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) into someone completely different,” notes Deadline.

Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson were reportedly approached for the part of Melina (played in the original film by Rachel Ticotin), but nothing is set in stone as of now.

Casting Beckinsale as the leading female would be perfect, especially since she and Wiseman share more than just an excellent personal relationship: they also worked together before on the first two “Underworld” movies.

As noted above, the “Total Recall” remake would also star Colin Farrell in Schwarzenegger’s role but, right now, that’s about all that is known / speculated in the media.

Kate Beckinsale is now filming for “Underworld 4,” where she reprises the role of Selene, after skipping on one installment, “Rise of the Lycans.”

Word online has it her role will be more of a cameo, enough to allow her to pass the torch on to her daughter.
