Following reports that Kaspersky Lab’s Flashback killer app was suffering from a flaw, the internationally-known security vendor has issued an official announcement confirming it has successfully fixed its free Flashfake Removal Tool. An updated version, which should no longer cause any headaches to Mac users, has been released.

Kaspersky has been one of the first security vendors to roll out a detection & removal tool for the widespread Flashback Trojan that has reportedly infected over half a million Macintosh computers worldwide.

Kaspersky now reveals in a post on its official web site that “a bug was identified in the original version of the tool, which was first reported at approximately 17:40 MSK (GMT+4) on April 12. The tool was taken offline for maintenance.”

“A new version of the tool with the necessary updates was released at 3:30 MSK (GMT +4) on April 13. It is available now and fully operational,” says the Russia-based security company.

Mac owners who haven’t yet taken any steps to detect and / or remove the Flashback Trojan from their computers are encouraged to visit www.flashbackcheck.com to verify if they’re infected with Flashfake and then use the firm’s Flashfake Removal Tool “to disinfect their computers.”

Softpedia hosts the tool as well. Follow the link below to download the updated Flashback killer from Kaspersky.

Kaspersky adds that customers who encountered problems with the Flashfake Removal Tool should contact the firm’s technical support at [email protected].

“Kaspersky Lab apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this issue. The company is focused on creating utilities to keep users safe from infection and will continue to improve its internal processes to prevent such errors from occurring in the future,” Kaspersky concludes.
