Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of content management solutions has produced a new anti-virus software specifically for mobile phones.

The new Anti-Virus Mobile software will be available for mobile phones running on Windows Mobile or Symbian and will include signatures that will be downloaded to the devices either via WAP or the net.

The software will screen spam sent via SMS and can restrict incoming messages according to the blacklist or whitelist.

According to the company CTO Eugene Kaspersky more malware screening will be added after it becomes more apparent which exploits mobile hackers will decide to use. "We don't know which way the criminals will go. With new technologies, it is probable there will be new attacks."

It looks like at the moment neither mobile phone manufacturers nor service providers are willing to take responsibility for blocking possible threats. Kaspersky predicts that in the future, mobile phone security will tend to mimic that for computers. "In the future, as prices drop and smart phones are more common, the situation will become more critical," Kaspersky says.

The company plans to demonstrate its latest antivirus mobile product at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. Kaspersky Anti-Virus mobile provides smartphone users with protection against viruses, Trojans and SMS spam.

3GSM visitors will be able to test the company's products and scan their mobile devices for viruses. The anti-virus software for mobile phones will become available later this quarter and will cost $30 per user. At the 3GSM World Congress Kaspersky Lab will also present solutions for mobile operators, mobile service providers and software vendors.
