AOL replaces its security solution

AOL Active Virus Shield is a security tool provided by AOL that offered the users the possibility of installing the famous Kaspersky solution. I talked about this feature using the Past Tense because it seems that AOL quietly replaced the Kaspersky antivirus solution with McAfee Virus Scan. What's most interesting is that the company didn't even send a notification to the consumers or at least, it wasn't reported yet. On the official page of AOL Active Virus Shield, it is mentioned that the parent company replaced Kaspersky with McAfee but didn't provide an official reason for this decision.

"We're Sorry! AOL Active Virus Shield is no longer available. Looking for protection from viruses, spyware and hackers? We are now offering McAfee Virus Scan Plus-Special edition from AOL. Please visit AOL Internet Security Central to find the most comprehensive FREE set of safety tools available to help keep you, your family, and your PC safer from online threats," the message posted on the main page of the product reads.

Clicking on the 'Learn More' button provided by AOL redirects us to the AOL Internet Security Central which offers more info about McAfee VirusScan Plus - Special edition from AOL as well as a download link for the product. In addition, AOL also posted a message that might reveal the reason for the Kaspersky replacement: "Gives you the most comprehensive free set of safety tools available. We've partnered with a leading name in Internet security to deliver the essential protection you need."

If you've never heard of it, McAfee VirusScan Plus is a security solution designed by the folks working at McAfee and which is able to protect your computer against all kinds of threats lurking out there in the wild on the Internet.

Although I'm sure you already know it, you can download McAfee VirusScan straight from Softpedia.
