14 DAY TRIAL // An update released by security company Kaspersky for its anti-virus software restricted access to the Internet on Windows XP machines, but the vendor reacted very fast and issued a fix only a few hours later.
According to NeoWin, the security update was aimed at computers running the x86 versions of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 6.0.4 MP4, Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows, Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10 for Windows, Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 and 2013 and Kaspersky Pure 2.0.
Internet access should be restored as soon as the patch is applied on the affected computers, Kaspersky said, so make sure you deploy the latest updates in case you’re running one of the aforementioned security products.
While nobody knows for sure how many users have been affected by the issue, keep in mind that Windows XP remains the second most popular operating system, even though it’s an 11-year-old software.
Data provided by Net Applications for the month of January 2013 reveals that Windows XP has even increased its market share last month to 39.51 percent.
