Russian security company Kaspersky prides itself on delivering the least disruptive anti-virus solution for Microsoft's latest operating system Windows Vista. Kaspersky is basing its claims on a comparison performed by Virus Bulletin. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 not only integrates seamlessly with Vista, but it also manages to create a minimal impact on the platform while active.

Recently, Virus Bulletin has compared a collection of security solutions built for Windows Vista. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 was among the products certified with a VB100% award, that guarantees highly effective protection. However, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 has managed to stand up from the "crowd" in terms of the lowest effect delivered to the overall performance of Windows Vista.

"When scanning archives on-access with default product settings, the slowdown caused by Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 was just 0.656 of a second. With the same default settings, the slowdown was 16.39 seconds for executable and system files, and 5.234 seconds for media files and documents. All scanning results for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 were significantly better those of other leading anti-virus products," Kaspersky explained.

Out of all the security solutions that were the subject of the comparison, including products from Symantec, McAfee, Sophos and even Microsoft, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 slows down Windows Vista the least when scanning files. Minimal on-access scanning delay ensures an equilibrium between usability an efficiency.

Kaspersky even cited comments from Virus Bulletin: "From the user's point of view, on-access scanning speed is more important than on-demand scanning speed. On-demand scans can be run at off-peak times, while on-access slowdown affects users at all times."
