After sounding the alarm on the growing number of OS X security threats, Kasperky Lab conveniently announced a new version of its Internet Security program for Mac users, featuring a Financial Security tool that ensures safe shopping online.

Kaspersky says hackers usually go after Windows and Android because of their high market shares. However, in 2014, cybercriminals “have increasingly begun to attack Mac OS X,” says the Russian security company. Last year, a total of 1,499 new malicious programs were found targeting OS X, an increase by 200 pieces of malware (compared to the previous year). Trojans and phishing attacks dominated the scene.

All-new Kaspersky Internet Security for Mac

To combat these threats, the Russian company upgraded its Mac-oriented security software with a bunch of new tools, as well as a nifty new interface for more user-friendliness.

One of the key tools in the app is Financial Security, a module that helps protect your online shopping habits by checking the security of the connection and the legitimacy of the resource. If something isn’t right, the Safe Money technology will prevent the user from inadvertently entering. A virtual keyboard is also included to protect entered data from keyloggers.

Thwarts the likes of ShellShock

To protect against vulnerabilities like ShellShock, a widely-reported piece of malware that affected numerous Macs in 2014, Kaspersky Internet Security for Mac includes something called Network Attack Blocker.

“It launches simultaneously with the operating system, and analyzes all incoming traffic,” Kaspersky explains. “If suspicious activity is detected, the solution alerts the user and blocks the attacker's IP address.”

The updated software further includes Parental Controls and other stuff meant to secure your Mac and your Internet-surfing habits. Download Kaspersky Internet Security for Mac from Softpedia and start using the web more safely today. A trial version is available, while the full product sells for $59.95 (€50.83).
