Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t like fat people. He also hates thongs, being told what to do and not being allowed to speak his mind. One thing that the eccentric fashion designer loves more than keeping busy with various projects is chocolate – and he eats that with his nose.

The designer, who also doubles as a filmmaker, author and photographer, is now launching his career as a director of commercials – and he’s just premiered a series of ads for Magnum ice cream, starring Rachel Bilson.

Karl sat down with W magazine for a 30-minute interview (he’s always on the run like that), and revealed, among countless other things, that, while he doesn’t eat sugar at all, he loves chocolate.

“I would love to [have ice cream] if I was allowed to eat sugar, but my doctor told me that sugar wasn’t needed for me so I haven’t touched it in ten years,” Karl says.

Yet, he directed a commercial for Magnum.

“I also did the ad for Dom Pérignon and I don’t drink alcohol, but I think it’s a very civilized drink,” the designer points out.

He doesn’t crave sugar either, because he’s learned to experience his favorite treat – chocolate – differently from other people.

“I like chocolate. I don’t eat it, but I like the smell of it. People can drink with their eyes; I can eat with my nose. I would love to have a perfume based on chocolate,” Karl says.

In the same interview, the designer reveals he doesn’t like it when women wear thongs, dishes on his favorite brands and designers, talks about the one thing he can’t do (play the piano), and goes on the record saying that he would never become a writer because he doesn’t have that much to say.

He also addresses the question of his trademark hairdo, which he refuses to change.

“No, [I won’t cut it] because I’m afraid it won’t grow again. And I’m not very gifted for hairdos. This is the quickest thing in the world. It takes less than five seconds,” Karl says.

Which is not to say he does it himself.

“I have someone who comes to the house and washes it, puts in the dry shampoo, and takes care if it because I have no time. I don’t even have time to go to the dentist. I’m busy but in a pleasant way,” he adds.
